INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS
Prof. Dr. med. Ettore Rossi (1915 – 1998), one of the most prominent European paediatricians, served as Chair of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Bern , Switzerland, from 1957 to 1985. In his will, he proposed the creation of a foundation. In the year 2000 his widow, Mrs. Valeria Rossi, established the Fondazione Ettore e Valeria Rossi.
Purpose of the Foundation
The capital of the Foundation shall be directly or indirectly dedicated to children and adolescents, with the widest possible range of topics.
The Foundation can become active especially in the following fields:
- Support of scientific research projects related to children, particularly in medicine
- Awarding of grants for postgraduate education of persons in medical and biomedical fields related to Pediatrics
- Awarding of grants for the education of medical students in research
In consideration of the available funds the Council of the Foundation has declared the areas mentioned above as the main priorities.

Applications
Applications are to be sent to the address mentioned below and must contain the following headings:
A. Applications for research grants
- Reason for the application and for the choice of the institution where the project will be carried out, as well as for the requested amount
- CV, list of publications
- Plan of the research project (existing knowledge from the literature, eventually own contributions, precise description of the project with methodology, time plan, impact of the project, budget)
- Letter(s) of support, letter of confirmation by the institution in which the research activity is planned
- Future plans and perspectives, eventually letter of confirmation concerning future employment by a Swiss institution
- Other financial sources and their amounts and duration
- Approval by ethical committees (where indicated). Statement concerning scientific integrity regulations at the institution of choice.
B. Applications for educational grants
- Reason for the application and for the choice of the institution where the training is planned, as well as for the requested amount
- CV, List of publications
- Letter(s) of support, letter of confirmation by the institution in which the training is planned
- Future plans and perspectives, eventually letter of confirmation concerning future employment by a Swiss institution
- Other financial sources and their amounts and duration
- Budget
C. Applications for education of medical students in research
- Reason for the application and for the requested amount
- Curriculum vitae
- Plan of the research project (as for A.)
- Other financial sources and their amounts and duration
- Approval by ethical committees (where indicated). Statement concerning scientific integrity regulations at the institution of choice.
- Letter of the mentor of the student during the research project
- Letter(s) of support (e.g. by the local mentor or by the Dean).
Next grant period; deadline for applications
The next grant period begins on January 1st, 2013 and lasts for one or two years.
Deadline for applications: November 30, 2011.
The applicants will be informed about the final decision of the Foundation at the latest on June 30, 2012.
